SIEF2011: People make places
I am giving a paper, entitled 'Reclaiming Sense of Place', at the 10th International Congress of the International Society for Ethnology and Folklore, as part of a panel organised by Dr. Sephanie Hawke and Dr. Michelle Stefano.
Abstract:
In what ways can art practice respond to the co-option of sense of place as a 'unique selling point', by developing strategies of placemaking, which engender a 'global sense of place' by acknowledging and attributing value to the multiple identities and practices of specific places?

Longhouse Action Research Project
I have been awarded an Action Research bursary by Multistory in West Bromwich, as part of their Longhouse project. Over the next six months I will be developing a project that explores how a sense of place might be retained within the town centre, which is currently being redeveloped by Tesco. Secret Garden Project
I am currently running a series of workshops on the Islington Canal for Up Projects, which are designed to introduce the idea of public art, survey the wildlife around the canal and assist the installation of the latest commission in the Secret Garden project by the artist Tania Kovats.
